Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship

Alva C. McFarlaneThe Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority established the Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship (ACMS) to prepare young Virgin Islanders for technical careers with the Authority. The Scholarship was named in the honor of the late Alva C. McFarlane who, as a member of the Authority’s Governing Board, was instrumental in the establishment of the Scholarship.

  • Engineering Degree ... $60,000

  • Technical Degree ...... $20,000

Requirements and Selection Considerations

To be considered, you must:

  • Be a US Citizen or resident
  • Not have a criminal record
  • Be a high school graduating senior or be a university Freshman or Sophomore
2010 ACMS Recipients: Matthias Clarke (St. Croix), Jelani Foy (St. Thomas), Jherome Dias (St. Thomas)

Recipients selection on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement
  • Standardized college admission test scores
  • Financial need
  • Community involvement
  • The needs of the Authority

Recipient's Obligations

Upon graduation from college, university or technical school a recipient of the Scholarship is immediately required to work for the Authority for the number of years it took to complete their degree.
