The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority is advising St. Croix motorists that Fortress Electric Company will be installing 69KV underground cables along the Feeder #8 route during the next several months. This work will facilitate the interconnection of transmission lines between the Richmond Substation and the mid-island substation which will be constructed near Estate Profit.

Currently, crews are working from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily along Route 66, the Melvin H. Evans Highway, from the container port entrance west to the Diageo facility. This phase will be completed by early next week. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while driving in the area as men will be working in manholes that are located in the roadways.

The underground cable installation project is scheduled to be completed by April. During the construction period crews will also be working on Route 75 - Juanita Gardine School west to the traffic light; and Route 70— Beeston Hill west to Peter’s Rest intersection.

The installation of the cables at a cost of $180,000 is funded by the Authority’s Series 2010 bonds.

WAPA appreciates the cooperation of the public during this service enhancement effort.
