ALERT: WAPA IMPLEMENTS REVISED WATER SERVICE SCHEDULE EFFECTIVE SATURDAY

(Saturday, November 26, 2011)

WAPA ALERT – 8:00 p.m.

WAPA IMPLEMENTS REVISED WATER CONSERVATION SCHEDULE

An unexpected failure in a tube on  boiler # 11 at the Randolph E. Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas, caused the unit to trip offline and has reduced the Authority’s ability to make sufficient water to maintain the current conservation schedule. Plant personnel will begin repairs as soon as possible, but at this time the water conservation schedule has been adjusted to 6 to 8 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. daily beginning this evening, until further notice. The Authority will gravity feed to schools on Monday. Every effort will be made to relax the conservation schedule as soon as possible.

Once pumping begins, it may take a short period of time for water pressure to build up to individual homes or businesses at higher elevations. To avoid possible mishaps when water returns, the Authority is requesting that its customers leave faucets in the closed position until water pressure is available. Please help neighbors to maximize the limited amount of water available by using water conservatively, when available, and recycling bath and dish water to flush toilets, wash cars and water plants.

The Authority appreciates the patience and understanding of its customers since the conservation schedule has been in effect.
