Active Tropical Wave Will Likely Bring Inclement Weather to the V.I. Tonight

(Monday, July 30, 2012)

ACTIVE TROPICAL WAVE WILL LIKELY BRING INCLEMENT WEATHER TO THE V.I. TONIGHT

A fairly robust tropical wave is located over the northern Leeward Islands early this afternoon and this system is producing some very squally weather with wind gusts of 60 to 65 miles per hour being reported on island of St. Barts earlier this afternoon.

This tropical wave is tracking west-northwestward and will likely affect the Virgin Islands as well as Puerto Rico later this evening and during the overnight hours. The wave has the potential to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds with gusts to 60 miles per hour to the local area.

As for further development, the chances are very low as the combination of land interaction and strong wind shear will prevent any sort of significant development. Given that, the very squally weather that is expected from this system will feel like tropical storm conditions across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by later this evening and tonight.
