WAPA ELECTRIC SERVICE UPDATE 9:30 p.m.

ST. CROIX

WAPA SCHEDULED TO COMPLETE ST. CROIX ELECTRIC SERVICE RESTORATION

ON FRIDAY

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority line crews on St. Croix have returned to the yard after a demanding 14-hour workday of restoring electric service to locations across the island.  As of 9 p.m., the majority of line problems including pole fires, downed power lines, and blown transformers, have been addressed with approximately a dozen more areas to be restored to service. Weather permitting these areas, some in remote, bushy locations, will be restored on Friday. Line crews will begin work at 7 a.m.

With the expectation of about 4-8 more inches of rainfall,  and possibly more wind gusts, customers are cautioned that soft moist grounds, falling tree limbs, and other challenges may  pose dangerous conditions  for line crews and possibly slow the work, but every effort will be made to restore service to the remaining customers as early in the day as possible.

Residents are urged to stay away from lines that may be lying on the ground. Assume all lines are energized and immediately call WAPA’s emergency call center at 340-773-2250 and press #7 for assistance.  Messages can also be sent via email  to  www.viwapa.vi by clicking on the red button to report an electric or water problem.

WAPA appreciates the understanding of its customers during this restoration period from the passing of Tropical Storm Isaac.
