MELVIN EVANS HIGHWAY TRAFFIC DETOURS SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WHILE CREWS INSTALL A WATERLINE CROSSING

(Monday, September 24, 2012)

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority contractor GEC, LLC will be crossing the Melvin Evans highway with a waterline at the Air National Guard/Department of Motor Vehicles intersection (West of East Airport Road Intersection). On Wednesday, September 26, the contractor will begin excavating to place a 12” sleeve for a new 6” waterline extension to the Air National Guard Complex. The traffic is expected to be rerouted from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to facilitate the work. On Thursday, September 27, traffic will be temporarily rerouted to Airport Road or Queen Mary Highway at the east and west airport intersections, from 9 a.m. to noon to repave the roadway. No water interruptions are expected to occur during the work period.

To ensure the safety of work crews, pedestrians and other vehicles in the area, motorists are asked to drive cautiously and follow all traffic directions.

WAPA appreciates the understanding of the public during this water service enhancement project.
