Service Fully Restored to St. Thomas/St. John Feeders

(Thursday, October 11, 2012)

SERVICE FULLY RESTORED TO ALL ST. THOMAS/ST. JOHN FEEDERS AFTER GENERATOR OUTAGE THIS MORNING

Service was fully restored to all feeders in the St. Thomas/St. John District in under an hour today after an unforeseen failure of Unit 23 at  Harley Power Plant occurred at 10:14 a.m.   Unit 23 tripped off line when operators attempted to restore service to a pump which lost pressure and is used to control the water injection system for  the  generator’s emissions system.  The remaining on line units were unable to meet the customer energy demand which peaks daily around that time.  Plant personnel were able to immediately bring Unit #15 on line to assist with meeting the load.  Power to all areas was restored by 11:10 a.m. Plant engineers are now troubleshooting the reason for the loss of pressure on the NOX system.  The unit will be restored to service once all system controls are confirmed operational.
