WAPA Transferring St. Croix's Estate Whim Customers to New Water Service Line

(Wednesday, February 20, 2013)

WAPA WATER SERVICE ALERT!
WAPA TRANSFERRING ST. CROIX’S ESTATE WHIM CUSTOMERS
TO NEW WATER SERVICE LINE

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and Virgin Islands Paving Inc., have begun the transfer of customers to the newly installed waterline in the Estate Whim/Campo Rico areas. Both old and new water lines will be active during the transfer resulting in minimal service interruptions, however, some service interruptions will occur during major tie-ins until all the new lines are connected to the existing distribution system.

On Thursday February 21, there will be a service interruption from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Estate Whim, Good Hope and Campo Rico areas while four major waterline tie-ins are completed. Tie-in locations include Campo Rico Road near Amigo's Gas Station and several locations along Route 701 west (Good Hope Town Houses road) near the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority’s Lift Station.

Customers in Hannah's Rest and on the roads of the Good Hope Town Houses and the Whim Ballpark will not be affected as they have already been transferred to the new waterline.

Motorists are asked to drive cautiously in the work areas as traffic will be rerouted during construction hours.

WAPA appreciates the understanding of the public during this water service enhancement project.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Whim waterline rehabilitation project consists of the installation of approximately 20,100 linear feet of new 6-inch PVC water lines in Estate Whim. Work is scheduled for completion by March 30th. This project, which will greatly improve water service to Estate Whim customers, is funded by the Territorial Drinking Water Capital Improvement Grant Program and Legislative Act 7081, Bill No. 28-0089.
