WAPA Installing New St. Thomas Waterline This Week

(Tuesday, April 02, 2013)

WAPA Connecting New St. Thomas Waterline This Week

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and Island Roads Corporation crews on St. Thomas will be connecting a new 12-inch water line to existing 8-and 10-inch lines on Wednesday and Thursday nights  April 3 and 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.  Crews will be working on General Gade and on  Kronprindsens Gade in the vicinity of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.   A water service interruption during the work period will affect customers on General Gade and in the area of the USO and the V.I. Department of Finance.  Motorists are asked to obey traffic directions and to avoid the work area when possible to minimize traffic delays.

The Authority is working collaboratively with the V.I. Department of Public Works to install the water line  as part of  the Market Square Beautification Project. The work as scheduled  will allow time for roads affected by the construction to be repaved prior to the start of any Carnival related activities planned for the downtown area in the coming weeks.

.           The Market Square waterline rehabilitation project consists of the installation of approximately 650 linear feet of new 12-inch PVC water lines on Kronprindsens Gade from General Gade to Guttets Gade. This project, which will improve water quality in the town area,  is  funded by property taxes at a cost of $160,000.
