St. Thomas Water Crews to Connect Water Line and Install Hydrant Monday -Wednesday

(Friday, April 26, 2013)

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority water crews on St. Thomas will be making the final waterline tie-in on Kronprindsens Gade on Monday through Wednesday, April 29 through May 1.  During the three work days, the road from General Gade west to Nye Tvaer Gade (in the area of Chicken Fry restaurant) will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Crews will connect the new 12-inch water line to an 8-inch line and install a new fire hydrant by the St. Peter and Paul Catholic School.

On Wednesday, customers on Kronprindsens Gade between General Gade and Nye Tvaer Gade will experience a water service interruption from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., however, the St. Peter and Paul Catholic School will not be affected.  Customers in the area should prepare by storing ample water to use while service is suspended. Every effort will be made to restore service as quickly as possible.

Motorists are asked to obey traffic directions and to drive cautiously in the work area.

For further information email or call the water department at 340-775-5873.

The Authority is working collaboratively with the V.I. Department of Public Works to install the 12-inch waterline as part of the Market Square Beautification Project. The waterline rehabilitation project consists of the installation of approximately 650 linear feet of new 12-inch PVC water lines on Kronprindsens Gade from General Gade to Guttets Gade. This project, which will improve water quality in the town area, is  funded by property taxes at a cost of $160,000.
