(Wednesday, May 22, 2013)

ELECTRIC SERVICE INTERRUPTION SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY EVENING TO SMALL SECTION OF CHRISTIANSTED FEEDER #1

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority has scheduled an electric service interruption for Thursday, May 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. to a small section of Christiansted Feeder #1 underground circuit. Affected customers include the Scotia Bank building, First Bank building, St. Croix Foundation headquarters, and all residents on Strand Street from Prince Street to King Cross Street.

Fortress Electric will connect new high voltage cable on Strand and King Streets to the energized cable on Prince Street.

Every effort will be made to restore service as quickly as possible. Motorists are urged to obey all traffic directions to ensure the safety of line crews and the public.

The Authority appreciates the understanding of the affected customers.

Project Background
The installation of electrical cables is part of the Christiansted Underground Project Phase II which is funded by grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and past customer payments into the Self-Insurance and Hazard Mitigation Fund at a total cost of approximately $2 million.
