WAPA Installing Switches and Transformers on Main Street, Market Square and Curacao Gade (Old Lucy’s ) on St. Thomas Tonight

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority crews and Fortress Electric will be installing switches and transformers on Main Street, Market Square and Curacao Gade from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. this evening. Service will be interrupted in the area of VI Lottery, Pizza Hut, Water Front, Magic Ice and at the Old Marianne Building as part of the downtown Charlotte Amalie Hazard Mitigation Project.

Motorist are asked to adhere to signs and be careful when driving in the area. We thank the community for their cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience.

The Charlotte Amalie Hazard Mitigation Project is a critical component of WAPA’s larger underground mitigation plan for the Virgin Islands. It is federally funded at $1.6 million and requires a cost share between the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and WAPA for a total price tag of $2.9 million. WAPA’s portion of the cost is funded by past customer payments into the Self-Insurance and Hazard Mitigation Fund Project. Completion is scheduled for June 29, 2013.
