Christiansted Customers on Company St Between Church and Queen Cross to be Transferred to New Underground Circuit Saturday

(Friday, July 12, 2013)

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and Fortress Electric crews will begin the transfer of Christiansted customers on Company Street between Church and Queen Cross Streets, to the new Feeder #1 underground circuit on Saturday, July 13, from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Customers in this zone will be notified first by the project coordinator before the transfer of their home or business as a brief service interruption will be necessary to facilitate each connection.

Company Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Church and Queen Cross Streets from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Motorists exiting town are urged to use the Christiansted Bypass during the work period and to observe signs and flaggers’ directions to ensure the safety of workers and the public. Every effort will be made to reopen the work area as quickly as possible.

The installation of electrical cables is part of the Christiansted Underground Project Phase II which is funded by grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and customer payments into the Self-Insurance and Hazard Mitigation Fund at a cost of approximately $2 million.
