WAPA to Hold VIenergize Services Network Meetings

(Monday, October 28, 2013)

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s VIenergize (pronounced “vy energize”) Services (VIeS) unit will hold meetings for the Vienergize Services Network (VISN) on Tuesday, October 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Windward Passage Hotel on St. Thomas and Wednesday, October 30, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s Cardiac Center on St. Croix.  These meetings are open forums for everyone interested in growing the market for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the Virgin Islands. Energy professionals and entities offering energy products and services, increasing energy-industry related revenues and assisting residents in becoming more energy efficient are urged to attend.

VISN (pronounced “vision”) is an emerging network of energy professionals to include licensed engineers, architects, contractors and financiers who possess the skills and ethics necessary to implement quality cost-effective energy and water projects in the territory. At the St. Thomas and St. Croix meetings, members and potential members will find out how VIeS can help to increase business sales, hear feedback from VISN members of what the network is about, learn how VISN members can help to establish industry best practice standards and cooperation, get assistance with completing the application process and hear plans for future VISN events.

With the theme “Uniting All Segments of the Community for an Energy Revolution”, business owners will find out how WAPA will assist qualified local energy service and product providers through the VISN that connects V.I. businesses with customers. Consumers will be empowered by having an available network of qualified professionals from which to select the best provider to help them conserve energy and lower their utility bills.

The Authority’s VIenergize Services unit was established with a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior, to provide consumers with resources which will assist in reducing their energy and water consumption.  The intent of VIenergize Services is to offer additional support to the clean energy strategy goal of meeting 60% of the territory’s energy needs through clean energy by 2025.
