Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority Executive Director / CEO Hugo V. Hodge, Jr. has been selected to serve on the board of directors of the American Public Power Association (APPA).

Hodge’s appointment to the APPA board of directors is a first for a WAPA executive director. “To be recognized not only in our region but nationally for the work that is being done in the Virgin Islands, in diversifying the manner in which we generate electricity, is at best humbling. I am indeed honored to have been nominated but even more honored that the full voting membership was in agreement with my election to the board of directors of the APPA. This action by my peers speaks volumes of the respect they have not only for me and for the men and women of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, but for the work we are executing each day in the Virgin Islands towards the ultimate goal of lowering the cost of electricity for our customers,” Hodge said, adding that WAPA is in the midst of one of the largest makeovers of any power generation facility anywhere in the Caribbean region.

Hodge explained that the APPA, based in Washington, D.C., is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities. Collectively, these utilities serve more than 48 million Americans.

Hodge said his membership on the board of directors of APPA will allow him and his fellow board members to continue to build on programs that will offer utility companies an opportunity to grow and develop as world class energy providers.
