Water Service Restored to Melvin Evans Hwy; Two Leaks Near Sunny Isle

(Thursday, March 03, 2016)

Crews from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s Water Distribution division will carry out repairs this morning on two leaking potable water lines in the general vicinity of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on St. Croix.

According to Interim Executive Director Julio A. Rhymer, Sr., water service was restored at around 1 a.m. Thursday to about 90 percent of the affected area, after crews repaired a leak along Melvin Evans Highway. However, two additional leaks developed Wednesday night under the Sunny Isle Shopping Center traffic light, one of the two leaks was isolated. Crews will be out today to repair both leaks but the repairs will necessitate shutting down the Contentment Pump Station. Isolation of the pumping station will result in a water service interruption from Contentment to the Kingshill Storage Tank. Affected areas also include: Estates Catherine’s Rest, Humburg, Pearl, and Castle Coakley.

WAPA apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the service interruption and assures the public that crews will work to make the repairs as quickly as possible so that potable water service can be restored.
