WAPA to Begin Trenching Along Cyril E. King Airport Roadway

(Wednesday, August 31, 2016)

TO EXTEND FEEDER 5A FOR VITEMA UNDERGROUND PROJECT

Beginning Thursday, September 1, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority will conduct trenching and cable installation operations along the Cyril E. King Airport roadway, from the base of Sara Hill to the Moravian Highway intersection. Crews will work weekdays from 4 p.m. to midnight, and weekends from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Sept. 1 thru Sept. 30.

This work facilitates the VITEMA Underground Project, which allows the Authority to build a utility duct bank and extend Feeder 5A to the VITEMA headquarters. Currently the feeder serves the Airport via an underground circuit. When this federally funded project is complete, VITEMA will be sourced by two distribution feeders, 5A and 6A, which will increase the reliability of their electrical service and provide more stability during emergencies.

While crews are conducting trenching on the airport roadway, motorists are asked to follow directional signs and flagmen instructions for the safety of crews, pedestrians and other drivers.

There will be no electrical or water service interruptions as a result of this trenching, and no closure of the roadway.
