St. Thomas/St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands (July 7, 2026) — The Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority (“WAPA” or “the Authority”) announces planned overnight power outages on July 13 and July 14 as crews and contractors complete critical work associated with the Feeder 13 Bypass Project and the Feeder 7E Ridge Road Circuit Redundancy Project. Customers on the eastern portion of St. Thomas and throughout St. John will be impacted.
The scheduled outages will begin at approximately 11:00 p.m. each night and continue until 7:00 a.m., affecting the following feeders:
Monday, July 13: Feeders 9E, 8E, 7E, 9C, 7C, Mall, 10B, 9B, 7B, and Yacht Haven.
Tuesday, July 14: Feeders 9E, 8E, 7E, 9C, 7C, Mall, 10B, 9B, 8B, 7B, Yacht Haven, and 7A.
Scheduling the work overnight helps minimize disruptions for customers while allowing crews to safely complete this critical work.
During the outages, crews will complete the Feeder 13 Bypass Project by energizing a new overhead transmission line serving the eastern portion of St. Thomas and St. John. Once completed, this project will reduce the risk of forced outages associated with the aging Feeder 13 underground transmission line.
Crews will also complete outstanding work on the Ridge Road / Cabrita Point Distribution Circuit Redundancy Project, to interconnect the Cabrita submarine distribution cable with the STJ distribution network. This redundant power line to St. John was lost following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Together, these projects are part of the Authority’s strategy to restore and enhance operational flexibility, providing more options to reroute power during planned maintenance, equipment failures, or unexpected outages and helping reduce the frequency and duration of future service interruptions for customers.
WAPA recognizes that planned outages are inconvenient and appreciates customers taking the time to prepare in advance. These temporary interruptions are necessary to deliver long-term improvements that will strengthen the reliability and resilience of the electrical system serving St. Thomas and St. John.
