Construction Work Resumes for Midland Underground Project Monday March 6, 2023

Mar 03, 2023

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) would like to advise the public that construction work will resume on Monday, March 6, 2023, for the Midland Underground Project.  Work will be ongoing Monday through Friday from 8am – 5pm in manholes on Route 663 between Melvin Evans Highway and Queen Mary Highway.

The Midland Underground Project runs along Route 663 from Melvin Evans Highway, to Queen Mary Highway, and includes the location of the Gregory E. Willocks Substation.  This project will replace four overhead distribution lines with underground duct banks.  Underground infrastructure significantly decreases the impact of windstorm events to our electrical system and vastly reduces restoration time during such events.

No road closures will be associated with the construction; however, motorists are asked to exercise caution.  The Authority thanks the public for its cooperation.
