WAPA Governing Board Approves Extension for Diesel Supply Contract

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s (“WAPA” or “Authority”) Governing Board met today and approved an extension of the existing diesel supply contract with Borinken at the same terms and conditions as the current contract through March 31, 2024, for an amount not to exceed $19,000,000.  Votes were as follows: Chairman Fleming – Yes, Member Turnbull – Abstained, Member Boynes-Jackson – Yes, Member Selwood – Yes, Secretary Young – Absent.

Board members also discussed St. Croix’s ongoing potable water crisis and efforts being taken by the Authority and collaborating agencies in the near and long term to improve water quality for St. Croix customers.  An update on the Randolph Harley Power Plant (RHPP) New Generation Project was provided by Chief Operating Officer, Ashley Bryan, who also highlighted the Authority’s Wartsila maintenance plan and goal to ensure WAPA employees are fully trained on Wartsila unit operation.  Lastly, the Authority noted September 2023 marked another month of safe workplace practices, with no injuries to report.
