Updates will be provided on how the Authority is improving water quality on St. Croix
The Virgin
Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) extends an invitation to St. Croix
business owners for a virtual town hall meeting. This session will provide
updates on the EPA’s sequential water sampling results in November, WAPA's
actions to address the red and brown water, and general updates on WAPA’s plans
to improve overall water quality in the Territory. The town hall is scheduled
for Wednesday, December 20, from 10am to 11:30am via
Zoom
and
Facebook livestream.
“We
fully understand the critical importance of providing a safe and clean water
supply for our business community," said Andrew Smith, WAPA's CEO and
Executive Director. "Although recent EPA sequential sampling indicated
much lower lead levels compared to previous September findings, WAPA remains
fully committed to ensuring the water supply meets EPA requirements and to
eliminating red and brown water. This town hall meeting serves as a vital
platform to share essential details, including our action plan to get the work
done. We are eager for feedback from our business community," CEO Smith
elaborated.
Presenting
with WAPA will be representatives from the Departments of Health, Planning
& Natural Resources, and other government agencies. Business owners are
encouraged to register in advance via https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtceyqqT0rG9GqB-eMci3WVUBb-uArWXyF.
After registering, guests will receive a confirmation email with
information to join the meeting. An ASL interpreter and closed
captioning will be available for business owners in need of information.
Questions can also be sent in advance to communications@viwapa.vi.
Community
town halls and video broadcasts updating the public about WAPA’s progress have
been conducted over the last several months involving agencies such as the
Environmental Protection Agency, the Departments of Health, Planning and
Natural Resources, Licensing and Consumer Affairs, VITEMA, and Government
House. Future town halls to provide ongoing updates to the broader community
will continue in January.
