U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) would like to announce St. Croix’s Hannah’s Rest Waterline Rehabilitation project is now underway.
The project which will cost an estimated $3.2 million, is fully funded through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and administrated by our local partner, Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR). The project scope will entail replacing Hannah’s Rest existing old Ductile Iron waterlines with 10,800 feet of 6-inch C-900 PVC water pipe, valves, fittings, service connections, meter boxes, hydrants and road pavement restoration.
The replacement of these pipes will benefit Estate Hannah’s Rest community by improving water quality, reducing system wide water loss, and improving infrastructure and system reliability. The new piping material is C-900 PVC, which is both environmentally sustainable and optimal for long-term use in underground infrastructure. “As part of our vision, we're dedicated to delivering quality drinking water to all Virgin Islands residents in a sustainable manner. With the Clifton Hill water rehabilitation project completed and extensive progress on the Campo Rico project, we're excited for the groundbreaking of the Hannah’s Rest project—another progressive step in enhancing St. Croix's island-wide water system.” notes Noel Hodge, Chief Operating Officer - Water, at the Authority.
The project is slated to run from February 2024 through September 2024. During this time, residents in the area can expect construction activities that will at times impact road conditions. In addition, there may be instances of scheduled water service interruptions, as the new system is installed, tested, and activated. As part of the rehabilitation projects, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority is working with partners, Caritech, VI Paving, and Marco St. Croix, Inc. who are an instrumental part of the design and construction process.
