WAPA OBSERVES CUSTOMER SERVICE & PUBLIC POWER WEEK;

COMMUNITY- BASED ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED IN BOTH DISTRICTS

During the first full week of October, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority will commemorate both Public Power Week and Customer Service Week. These observances underscore two leading values of WAPA: Community Powered and The Magic of Service.

All across the nation, public power utilities, such as WAPA, are celebrating Public Power Week beginning on October 5th. It is an opportunity to help customers and stakeholders understand how they can better engage with their community-owned utility, and benefit from all its offerings,” said Lawrence J. Kupfer, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.

 Similarly, great service, is about how an employee concentrates on every interaction with a customer, and uses that encounter as a way to improve the customer’s experience with the Authority. “Our service representatives are on the front line with customers who call or visit our customer experience centers seeking information, and answers to questions about their electrical and water service.  I thank each and every CSR for their dedication to the mission of the Authority,” Kupfer said.

During the observances, a variety of activities are planned, geared at recognizing our Customer Service Representatives as well as familiarizing members of our community with the many services that are offered by the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority.

 Mini community events are planned on Wednesday, October 9 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Tutu Park Mall on St. Thomas, and on Thursday, October 10 at Sunny Isle Shopping Center on St. Croix, also from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

 At these events, participants will have an opportunity to engage with WAPA on several fronts:

  • Sign up for WAPA Alerts
  • Learn about Electrical Feeders (What Feeder Am I On?)
  • Discover Social Media Platforms
  • Update their information with a Customer Service Representative
  • Live Demonstrations such as:
  • Power Town -- the safety of electricity
  • Water Safety -- the Importance of Water Testing
  • How the meter works…

Finally, Kupfer said, to facilitate a customer service event, the St. Thomas and St. John customer service offices at Port of Sale Mall and The Marketplace respectively will open at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7. Similarly, the St. Croix Customer Service Office at Sunny Isle Annex will open at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8. The offices will close at their usual times on both days. Additionally, all customer service centers will be closed on Friday, October 11, 2019. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
