On Tuesday September 21, 2021, maintenance crews from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s water division and the utility’s contractor, Leumas Engineering, will cap old potable water lines in Frederiksted town. The work will result in some areas experiencing a water service interruption. Traffic flow changes will also be required.

Work will begin at 7 a.m. and service should be fully restored by 7 p.m. Line capping will take place at five intersections: New Street and King Cross Street, East Street and Queen Cross Street, New Street and Fisher Street, Hospital Street and Fisher Street and King Street and Fisher Street. While work is underway, the intersections will be closed to thru traffic.

Additionally, Frederiksted Town and Smithfield, Two Brothers and Veterans Shore Drive Road will experience reduced water pressure while customers on Fisher Street and in portions of Smithfield may experience a complete water service interruption.

Tuesday’s work will complete the transition from the old water system to the recently completed and modernized water distribution system on St. Croix’s west end.

WAPA encourages motorists traversing in and around the work areas to proceed with caution to ensure the safety of the crew, pedestrians, and other motorists.
