WAPA Welcomes New Chief Operation Officer

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority is pleased to announce Mr. Michael Sharp has joined the organization as its Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Sharp brings over two decades of expertise in operations, engineering, and asset management of power generating assets and associated transmission infrastructure. Mr. Sharp has focused throughout his career on transformational leadership to develop effective organizations and maximize the long-term value of assets.

Mr. Sharp most recently led operations for the Texas and New England assets of Talen Energy. Prior to joining Talen Energy, Mr. Sharp co-founded and led an energy management company focused on organized energy markets. Previously, at Dynegy, Inc. he was responsible for the commercial operations and profitability of a large fleet of generation serving six U.S. markets. Mr. Sharp spent the majority of his earlier career with Duke Energy where he advanced from the role of staff engineer to plant manager, and then assumed roles of increasing leadership and responsibilities including managing Duke Energy’s commercial generation fleet.

Mr. Sharp is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a Masters of Finance. He also earned an MBA from Xavier University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to attending college, Mr. Sharp began his energy career serving in the U.S. Navy nuclear power program.
