Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority Welcomes New Director of Accounting/Comptroller

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority is pleased to announce the arrival of Lorraine Kelly, who has joined the Authority as the Director of Accounting and Comptroller.

Director Kelly brings 30 years’ experience in finance and accounting management.  She began her career in the United Kingdom (UK)at Grant Thornton as an auditor, followed by Partner of Finance & Technology at Tatum LLC, Senior Director at Verizon (MCI/WorldCom) and most recently served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for ASHINC Corporation.

During her tenure, Director Kelly led numerous finance and compliance related initiatives that helped companies who were financially challenged achieve financial stability and growth, improve processes and controls and focus on employee engagement and collaborative customer and vendor initiatives.  Kelly’s comprehensive background encompasses not only financial management in logistics management and telecommunications, but also in the non-profit sector, where her team provided volunteer-mobilization to assist those affected by disasters in more than 35 countries with the use of government funding.

 Kelly received her Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Business Studies with a concentration in Finance in the UK in 1989 and has taught “Ethics and Accounting” as an adjunct professor for Master of Business Administration programs at several universities in the state of Georgia.  She also has served as a keynote speaker to companies including Coca-Cola Company and Teradata, and hosted a radio show for three years where she interviewed CFOs to help educate those in the accounting profession.  She received her Directorship Certification designation from the University of Georgia in 2011. 

Kelly was awarded the top consultant at Tatum, the CEO Award of Excellence at Verizon and recognized in 2010 and 2011 by clients for the Turknett Leadership Character Awards for exemplifying the highest standards of character and integrity to a firm and to the community.  For the last twenty years, she has volunteered with Partnership Against Domestic Violence, Girl Scouts, Zonta International and UNICEF to help advance the status of women and children and to help eradicate suffering from domestic violence and human trafficking.  Director Kelly will be joined in the U.S. Virgin Islands by her husband.
