U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) would like to advise the public of a road closure associated with the Midland Underground Project on St. Croix. The road closure will begin April 24, 2023, through April 28, 2023, from 8 AM – 3PM and will occur at the intersection of Centerline Road and Eddie Ortiz Drive (the intersection next to Central High School). Flaggers and signage will be present at all work zones, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.
The Midland Underground Project runs along Route 663 from Melvin Evans Highway, to Queen Mary Highway, and includes the location of the Gregory E. Willocks Substation. This project will replace four overhead distribution lines with underground duct banks. Underground infrastructure significantly decreases the impact of windstorm events to our electrical system and vastly reduces restoration time during such events.
