Scheduled Electrical Service Interruption Early Saturday Morning at 2AM for Critical Repair and Safety Measures

Aug 25, 2023

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) would like to inform customers and community members on the island of St. Thomas of a scheduled electrical service interruption occurring tonight, August 26th, from 2:00 AM – 4:00 AM. During the service interruption, Feeders 9B, 10B and a portion of 6B and 7B will be impacted as WAPA personnel work diligently to restore service.

This temporary outage is necessary to facilitate a critical repair resulting from a customer's failed equipment that was connected to the grid. The customer’s initial equipment failure severely impacted WAPA's electrical grid infrastructure and simultaneously caused a ripple effect of scheduled outages that have been experienced over the last several days on the island of St. Thomas to safely work on the repairs.

Safety is the Authority’s utmost priority, and the ongoing repairs have required an additional layer of safety procedures, due to the nature of accessing underground manholes. WAPA is committed to providing a reliable and uninterrupted power supply to the community and is taking all necessary actions to conduct repairs with minimal impact.

While we understand the frustration these service interruptions may cause, we appreciate the community's understanding as WAPA personnel work tirelessly to restore the Authority’s electrical infrastructure to its optimal condition.
