WAPA's Contractor “Davey Resource Group” Visits Customer Meters on St. Thomas as Part of GIS Inventory Project

Feb 27, 2024

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) would like to notify the public that technicians from the Davey Resource Group, a subcontractor for the ongoing Geographic Information Systems Inventory project, will be visiting all the Authority’s Transmission and Distribution assets including WAPA poles, customer meters, and padmount equipment on St. Thomas.  From February 26th through March 8th, 2024, Davey crews will be working along sections of the following feeders: 6B along the Main Street area and 6A in the Crown Mountain area.  During this time there will also be manhole crews who will be directing traffic so that assessments can be safely done. Crews will be working along Highway 30 and Kronprindsens Gade from Frederiksberg Point northward through Charlotte Amalie West.  A single lane closure will be required for a few locations along Highway 30 and a half road closure with 2-directional flagging will be required for the in-road features along Kronprindsens Gade.  In all traffic control setups- traffic in all directions will be maintained.  Please see maps below for location details.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will aid in assessments for disaster recovery, accelerate response time to system problems, offer asset tracking, load monitoring, and system analysis.  The Davey Resource Group technicians will be using tablets, GPS equipment and other devices during the field inventory and can be identified by their WAPA Contractor ID badges, safety vests, and a Letter of Authority (available upon request).  All residents, business owners, and local authorities are asked to provide full cooperation during the inventory project.

Any questions concerning the project may be directed to Ambi Blyden, Interim Planning and Design Manager at 340-774-3552 extension 2270, or ambi.blyden@viwapa.vi.  The Authority thanks the community for its understanding, as we work to enhance our capabilities to provide quality service.
