Fuel Conservation Measures Continue in the St. Thomas/St. John District

Sep 04, 2024

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (September 4, 2024) – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or the “Authority”) announces continued conservation efforts as the St. Thomas/St. John district is experiencing low diesel inventory. As part of those efforts, to minimize impact to schools and businesses and to prevent district-wide outages, a rotational outage schedule is in effect between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.

As the Authority awaits delivery of diesel, customers are being asked to conserve energy as much as possible to stabilize power across the district. Customer power consumption continues to rise, leading to increased fuel usage and creating a greater-than-normal demand for fuel.

This initiative to reduce outages requires a collective effort from our community. Actions like minimizing air conditioning use when you're not at your home/business, turning off fans and lights when leaving a room, and unplugging electronics not in use can all contribute to reduce power consumption.

Together, we can reduce the impact during these warmer months. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to practicing sustainability and reducing your power usage during this time.

The scheduled rotation outage below for the St. Thomas/St. John district is subject to change and restoration can be delayed up to 15 minutes based on load demand:
