CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (May 6, 2025) – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or the “Authority”) advises the public that WAPA line crews have been working throughout the day to isolate a fault on one of the primary transmission lines serving the East End of St. Thomas and the island of St. John.
Crews will continue to work through the night to safely repair the damaged infrastructure.
To maintain system stability during this period, the Authority has implemented rotating outages to prevent overloading other portions of the electrical system. Contractors are also on standby as needed.
“We know how disruptive unexpected outages can be, especially when they affect homes, businesses, and essential services,” said Karl Knight, CEO and Executive Director, Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority. “Our crews have been working since the start of the incident, and I want to personally thank them for their service and efforts to restore full stability to the grid as quickly as possible.”
The Authority will continue to keep the community informed with regular updates as progress is made toward resolving the issue.
