ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (May 15, 2026) – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “Authority”) proudly recognizes two senior students from St. Croix Central High School who successfully completed internships at the Authority through the school’s NAF Academy of Business Internship Program.
Through this partnership, students gained hands-on exposure to real-world work environments at WAPA, helping them explore career pathways, build practical workplace skills, and develop professional experience that supports long-term growth and future workforce readiness.
Curious about the field of auto mechanics, Orlando Gerard gained firsthand exposure to the inner workings of WAPA’s Garage Department during his internship with the Authority. Through the experience, he learned about the essential role fleet maintenance plays in supporting daily utility operations and emergency response efforts, while observing the servicing and upkeep of vehicles critical to delivering reliable services to the community.
With an interest in skilled trades, Israel Popo gained valuable hands-on exposure within WAPA’s Welding Department during his internship experience. Throughout his time with the department, he was introduced to welding techniques and the craftsmanship involved in supporting and maintaining critical utility infrastructure that serves residents across the territory.
“WAPA is proud to support opportunities that provide students with meaningful, real-world experience,” said Carvelle Rogers, Talent Acquisition Specialist at WAPA. “Internships like these help expose young people to valuable career paths while strengthening the connection between education and workforce development in our community.”
As they continue their academic and professional journeys, the Authority extends its heartfelt congratulations to both students on their accomplishments and wishes them continued success in all future endeavors.
The Authority continues to support opportunities that empower students through hands-on learning experiences, workforce exposure, and community partnerships that help shape the next generation of Virgin Islands professionals.
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority Communication’s department is committed to reaching, informing, and connecting with the youngest members of the community to the eldest, through meaningful, transparent and effective communication.
