WAPA’s VIEnergize Empowers Customers with Net Energy Billing

Oct 17, 2025

U.S. Virgin Islands (October 17, 2025) – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “the Authority”) announces the relaunch of the Net Energy Billing (NEB) Program under the VIEnergize brand — a platform that brings together the Authority’s renewable energy projects and customer-focused initiatives to advance sustainability throughout the territory.

Through NEB, customers who generate solar energy can send their unused power back to the WAPA grid and earn bill credits. These credits are applied to the energy they consume from the grid, helping to reduce monthly electric bills while making solar more cost-effective. Neighboring customers also benefit from the energy returned to the grid, further driving the community effort of stabilizing power for all.

The growth of solar distribution through VIEnergize also supports the creation of microgrids — smaller, localized energy networks that enhance reliability and resilience. Microgrids reduce strain on generation units, keep critical services powered during outages, and accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more flexible energy system for the Virgin Islands.

“This program empowers our community to participate in building a smarter, greener Virgin Islands,” said Brian Walden, Director of VIEnergize. “By harnessing solar power, customers can reduce their costs while helping to strengthen energy security, advance sustainability, and build a more resilient distributed energy system across the territory.”

VIEnergize is part of WAPA’s broader vision to expand renewable energy, modernize infrastructure, and deliver reliable, sustainable power solutions for generations to come.
